The brand DZOFilm has unveiled its new Gnosis 24mm T2.8 macro cine lens with many of the same features as previous macro editions from this premium brand.

Of these previous models from the brand, including the 32mm, 65mm and 90mm prime editions, this new 24mm version offers the widest field of view by far.

With full-frame cameras, it delivers 83.8 degrees and 88 degrees on VV format cameras.  The new macro cine lens also offers a focus distance of just 6.1 inches (15.5 cm) and this is in fact one of its major selling points among competitor full-frame lenses for cinematic use.

What’s more, the Gnosis 24mm has a maximum magnification ratio of 0.8:1. Comparatively, its Gnosis 32mm and 65mm cousins offer ratios of 1:1 and 1.33:1.In other words, the difference is notably large.

This lens and its cousins only offer manual focus through a focus ring with 300-degree rotation. Its large T2.8 aperture offers strong image quality even with low lighting and allows for a shallow depth of field.

Internally, the Gnosis 24mm has a 16-bladed diaphragm and manual iris control with a 62-degree rotation angle.

This lens is also constructed with 12 elements in 10 groups. Among these are three high-refractive index elements (HRI) and two low-dispersion elements. Overall, thanks to these and other elements, DZOFilm promises rich color performance with minimal chromatic aberration.

The manufacturer has also invested in building sturdy lenses for the cinematic market. The Gnosis 24mm and all of its cousins are made from aluminum alloy for the sake of high strength and low weight.

In the case of this newest 24mm model, its weight sits at just 1.27 kilograms, or 2.79 lbs and its quite compact too with a length of no more than 3.94 inches (10cm) and a front diameter of only 4.49 inches (1.14cm). its filter threat is 105mm.

Finally, in terms of availability and price, the DZOFilm Gnosis 24mm T2.8 macro lens will start shipping as of mid-March in several different mount formats including PL, EF and LPL. It’s already available for preorder at a price tag of $5,389.
